1. When you’re feeling optimistic, look for a new job.

Even though it might go against what you think, people should look for a new job when they are happy and doing well in their present role.

In addition to having all the skills needed for a job, hiring managers want confident, positive, and driven candidates.

When you are sure of yourself and feel good about yourself, you will do better in an interview. Since you already have a job, you are less pressured than if you were between jobs. You’ll think, “If I get this new job, that’s awesome. If not, I have a good job to go back to.”

Most people fail at interviews because they are nervous, don’t feel confident, and come across as scared or even angry and bitter that they must look for work again. The interviewers can tell that they are unhappy. When the job market is tough, it’s easy for the hiring manager to pass on the applicant with a bad attitude and move on to the next option.

2. The best months to apply for jobs are January and February.

The best times to look for a job are a week or so into January and February. People are happy at the start of a new year because they feel they can start over with a clean slate.

People decide to lose weight, go to the gym, or find a new job as their New Year’s goals. Now that the holidays are over, you’re back to thinking about going back to work. From a business point of view, companies set their budgets and headcounts for the year. Hence, they are ready to interview applications and hire people. Businesses gave their annual reviews and performance ratings at the end of December. Based on the results, workers decide whether to stay or feel pressured to leave independently rather than wait to get fired.

3. Avoid sending resume on Monday

The best time to send in a resume is in the middle of the week or later. People send out their résumés to potential companies when they get the “Sunday Scaries” because they fear Monday and must rethink their jobs and lives.

Too many people feel this way, so your resume could get lost in the growing pile. Because there are so many, HR and bosses might not immediately see the resume. So, send out your resume late on Tuesday or Wednesday after the rush of resumes has died down.

Near the end of the week, fewer resumes are sent in. You should send in your resume on Thursday or Friday when there will be less competition, and your resume will stand out.
