Why Do We Constantly Feel Tired From Work?

October 24, 2023

Why Do We Constantly Feel Tired From Work?Employees are worn out and tired. A lack of job security brings stress and anxiety, money worries, having to cope with nasty coworkers and employers, long workdays, interrupted remote and hybrid work schedules, and fuzzier work-life boundaries. As a result, employees experience fatigue and weariness.

According to a 2023 Aflac analysis on workplace trends and attitudes, nearly six out of ten labor participants in the United States self-reported having at least moderate burnout.

External stress

There was persistent, nearly daily news of layoffs from the major firms from mid-2022 until lately. The job market is shocked when famous corporations drastically reduce their workforces. People’s feelings of unease and insecurity at work will start to grow. A person’s mental and emotional health suffers over time due to stress, anxiety, and survivor’s remorse.

The cost of almost everything has increased due to record-high inflation. Families’ incomes are reduced due to higher expenses for automobiles, homes, food, and other necessities. In addition, inflation reduces the value of the remaining funds.

Worrying about the security of your employment is normal when you witness people close to you being laid off. People feel pressured to work lengthy hours to avoid being targeted for layoffs. The extra hours makes you tired physically and mentally. At the same time, you struggle to make ends meet.

Hybrid work

Although many prefer remote and hybrid work arrangements, these models have drawbacks. Due to the inconsistent weekly schedules, loss of a familiar pattern, and persistent anxiety about a strict return-to-office rule, hybrid employment can be emotionally draining. There is a constant need to be on call, and the lines between life and work are becoming increasingly blurred. Setting boundaries gets challenging when you worry your boss may believe you’re spending time at home instead of working.

People relocated to less expensive areas during the pandemic have the greatest concerns. They now fear that they could lose their position at any moment. Employees who relocated during the pandemic could need to leave their jobs or move closer to their main headquarters.

What are the signs?

It is essential to be aware of the signs and symptoms of weariness so you can act quickly to address the issue and resolve it before it develops into a chronic problem.

Fatigue signs:

  • Do you frequently experience exhaustion, tired, or a lack of energy? Is getting out of bed difficult?

  • Are you losing interest in the things you once loved?

  • Are you staying away from social events?

  • Do you feel mentally and physically tired?

  • Are you yelling at people because you have a short fuse?

  • Do you struggle with time management?

  • Are you putting in an absurd number of hours and overworking yourself?

  • Do you lately seem more harried, depressed, disoriented, furious, or confused?

  • Do you find it difficult to concentrate?

  • Do you have sleep issues?

  • Do you feel hungry anymore?

  • Do you feel unmotivated at work?

  • Do you have more illnesses, headaches, or aches and pains?

How to handle it

If you’re overworked, take a break or discuss ways to lighten your burden with your boss. Make a budget or seek the advice of a financial counselor if you’re experiencing financial concerns due to excessive inflation and interest rates.

You must commit to taking microbreaks, using your paid time off, setting workplace boundaries, working out, exercising, eating healthfully, getting enough sleep, practicing self-care, and receiving professional treatment to recover from work-related weariness. A career change may be necessary to create a more balanced living if you are always exhausted.
